WTN: Two Calif Syrahs...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Sep 22, 2011 9:22 pm

Had two Calif Syrahs as mystery wines in last night's tasting:
1. EdmundsStJohn Syrah BassettiVnyd/SLOCnty (14.2%) P&B by ThirstyPagans with BigIdeas/SuisunCity 2005: Very dark/black color; very strong metallic/ozone/mineral/pungent rather violets/floral/blackberry/Syrah bit earthy complex nose; quite tart/lean earthy/metallic/pungent some blackberry/Syrah rather peppery/cold-climate very spicy complex flavor; fairly long mineral/pungent/metallic strong blackberry/cold-climate/peppery/Syrah rather tannic finish; a rather lean/hard Syrah that still needs age, buut should be a good one eventually.

Thanks for opening this and giving us an update. I only have a few bottles so am trying to wait as long as possible. Until that 'eventually' arrives.

Its sooooo hard. I had the same problem with the 2001. I tried to wait but eventually pulled the cork and while wonderful I just got the sense that it was still on the upswing.

Yup, that 2001 was bound to be a sacrifice to youth at any age, I think. Still have a grand total of one myself, and somehow manage to keep resisting.
