WTN: Peterson ZeroManipulation '09..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Sep 21, 2011 10:12 am

Tried this last night (well..early this morning) for dinner:
1. Peterson ZeroManipulation TolliniVnyd/MendoCnty (80% Carignane/17% PS/3% Zin; 1200 cs; U/U; www.PetersonWinery.com; "np soul-less wines") 2009: Very dark/near black color; very slight bretty strong black cherry/bing cherry/Carignane earthy/tomatoey/Mendo bit dusty/old vine rather grapey/rustic slight spicy/cinammon interesting/old-timey nose; soft rich/grapey/black cherry/Cargignane earthy/tomatoey dusty somewhat rought/rustic/coarse/tannic slight spicy/cinammon flavor; med.long grapey/rough/rustic/tannic/coarse black cherry/Carignane some dusty/tomatoey finish; a rather pleasant drinkable rustic red at a fair price; doesn't have the hard/edgy tannins Carignane often shows; speaks both of Caarignane and MendoCnty. $13.60 (IlC)

1. Tollini: The Tollini vnyd is a long-time Mendo, mostly Zin, vnyd. As you're driving up to Casey's EaglePointRanch, it is that old-vine vnyd on your left, just before you drop down into the canyon and hit the hill-billy/Ozarks part of that beautiful drive up to Casey's.

2. I've seen this ZeroManipulation wine on the shelves several time, w/ a hokey-looking Jackalope on the label. It showed up last week in my IlConsorzio shipment and I wanted something simple/rustic to go w/ my rustic tomatoe stew. It fit the bill nicely.
So what is "zero manipulation"?? According to Fred's WebSite: "Our definition of Zero Manipulation is using the gentlest winemaking techniques possible to maximize flavors, aromatics and the original essence of the wine. The less you do in the course of a wine’s tenure in the cellar, the more of the grape's and vineyard's essence you’ll have to bottle. Every time you do something to a wine, you take out a little of what you started with." I guess it must be a naked/natural/authentic wine.

And all this time I thought that a grape was a zero-manipulation wine. Go figger!

Well, at least they supplied their own definition...even if I don't buy it. They're still using words in the Alice In Wonderland style, attempting to make words fit whatever definition they choose. There's no such thing as a 'zero manipulation' wine.

And one more thing, Tom?

a hokey-looking Jackalope on the labe
Excuse me? :D

I was wondering, 'cause I didn't think it looked at all like me. :)

Of the various animal names starting with "jack," Hoke, you may not want to complain too hard about being compared to a jackalope! :D
