Two Whites from Niagara, Ontario

On Friday night, I had my second lobster dinner at my sister's (in Maine). The first lobster was on Tuesday night – 1-1/2 lb. soft-shell paired nicely with 2005 Chateau Moncontour Sparkling Vouvray (see Wine Focus for WTN). On Friday night, it was a 2 lb. hard-shell, corn-on-the-cob, sour dough rolls and green salad. The first wine opened was 2008 Flat Rock Cellars Chardonnay. I bought this at the winery in April. Screw-cap – light golden hue. Green apple and a touch of oak in the nose. Refreshing, palate cleansing acid without being tart. Medium-long, full finish and an excellent match. An excellent wine that was very easy to drink. In fact, it was so easy, that my sister and I had to open another bottle of wine. This was not one that one would normally pair with lobster, but it worked. 2008 Organized Crime Gewurtztraminer, also purchased at the winery in April. Natural cork, light straw color. The distinctive and generous Gewurtz aroma led us to a discussion of lychee, which I have never had. I mentioned this to my sister and she said, "Yes – it smells just like lychee nuts taste." She then told me all about lychee nuts. I'll have to find some, just for the experience. Juicy acidity and a long finish, that went well with the lobster. It seems the only wines from my area that my sister ever gets to try are my home made ones, so it was nice to share some other local treasures with her.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.
