WTN: Taltarni Shiraz 1998

by Bruce Hayes » Wed Sep 14, 2011 7:41 am

Pyreness-Victoria

Decanted about an hour before the meal.

Dark purple in the glass.

Not much on the nose.

Medium weight, chocolate, spicy, cherry, good acidity, balsamic vinegar, tarry, charred, perfumed.

Roasted-charred notes on the mouthwatering finish.

Quite good.

Ooh, a 98! How yummy. Taltarni was on the first wave of Australian exports to Alaska where I lived in the early 90's and it remains one of my favorite Aussie producers. The wines are generally so Old World and full of flavors like green olive and tar that most don't expect from there.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I'm fond of Taltarni's offerings, too, and I love shiraz.
1998 was a cracker year.

Yes, one of the best moderately priced shiraz that I had from '98 was the Pirramimma in 2007...awesome.
