WTN: 05 Roillete, 07 Drouhin Chorey

2005 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie deep purple red color. Still quite open aromatically, with a mix of primary fruit, a little florals and dirt. This has nice structure and concentration.
There is a fair amount of tannin for Fleurie or even Moulin-à-Vent (supposedly these vines were originally in the M-a-V appellation) and it starts to clamp down on the finish.
The first glass was the best as the wine gets tighter and more closed with air. Lots of years left and the best years probably down the road still.

2007 Drouhin Chorey les Beaune I guess if I had to pick two things that turn me on about a wine they would be the aromas, and when a wine achieves fullness of flavor without apparent density or extraction.
This wine does both and I really enjoyed it. A close third would be enough acidity to provide some zip or electricity, and this little Burgundy has plenty of that too. Translucent pale red in color, aromas of red fruits, and a little funk to let you know
where it comes from. At first the acidity is a little sharp, but it settles with air. Also as it opens the nose becomes more expressive. Most $20 or less Burgundy can be disappointments, but this went great with a simple roasted chicken and fingerling potatoes.
A repeat buy for me. 13% Abv.

Nice note on the Roilllette. Have you tried the 09? And did you stock up on the vintage?

I'm not Marc but they were pretty darn good. Are you still seeing 09 Roilettes for sale?

Nice pair of wines, Marc. We're still enjoying the '06 Drouhin Chorey. Agreed that it's a very fine wine for the money.

Yeah. There are a few left in my area; a local retailer was completely beguiled in a way I've never seen him over anything else with the 09 Beaujolais, and he still has a few. And I don't think I bought enough. :)

Wow. There was so much frenzy here in Nyc that the big winegeek stores seemed to go through the top names pretty quickly.

I thought the 09 Roilette Tardive was pretty special and only have room to have saved a few bottles but given the prices for someone with more cellar space they are so easy to buy.

I did get plenty of 2009 but they are not really drinking all that well (to me) at the moment.

Two nights ago opened the 2008 Roilette and its perfect right now.
I didn't love a lot of the 2008s when I first tried them, they were a bit screechy on the acid side and I thought maybe a little dilute. Not sure dilute is the right word.
Now I'm happy I have a few more 08s. The Roilette and also a Thevenet Morgon were both just lovely recently.

Close enough; I know what you mean. I tasted one or two and found them similarly reticent; enough to pass on the vintage where the 09's are irresistable. Every single one is good, even the Jadot.
