WTN: A delicious Cotes du Rhone

by Tom N. » Sun Sep 11, 2011 9:21 pm

Deep ruby red. Somewhat shy nose of red raspberry and plums. Luscious  midpalate with beautifully balanced red fruit, tingly acidity and solid but smooth tannins. Fruit trends toward raspberry and black cherry with a peppery component. Nice medium to long finish of fruit, acidity and sweet tannins on the back of the palate with a lingering note of white pepper spice. Quite new worldish for a French wine.

With food: Matched up with squash dish. This fresh garden vegetable delight of a dish is a mix of fresh tomatoes, green and red bell peppers, and zucchini from the garden along with fresh onions and mushrooms (from the store) mixed with ground beef and topped with a layer of melted aged cheddar. The tomato base of this dish melded wonderfully with the wine enhancing the sweet fruit.

Wine: 2007 Cotes du Rhone Villages, La Ferme Du Mont, "Le Ponnant" 14.5% abv
