2007 Mantonegro, Gonzales-Suner (Vinyes i Vins ca sa Padrina), Binissalem-Mallorca:
A brief note on this in response to Otto's recent TN and plea for un-spoofed wines from Mallorca. This is said to be 70% Mantonegro, with the rest Callet, Cab Sauv and Merlot; it sees some older oak with 10% new. Looks a bit older than one might expect - ruby with a touch of brick. Lots of spice wafting from the glass. First impression is a very clean and electric wine, quite seamless and long. Bright sour cherry but not sharp or tannic in any way, with some lava rock minerality (made me think of some Etna Rossos). Spoofed? Not in my opinion - seems like an honest wine not marked by oak, but still quite polished. Would certainly buy again at $13. A Jose Pastor Selection, 13.5% abv.
