1999 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett
AP #2. Still very, very young, showing lots of primary Meyer lemon, pear and green apple fruit with a gentle herbal seasoning but little in the way of development. It's still incredibly refreshing and easy to drink though with restrained sweetness, tremendous acidity and remarkable focus and persistence. Fantastic.

2005 Domaine Truchot-Martin Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbes Vieilles Vignes
Don't open this any time soon if you have any. This really needs a lot of time. Very reticent at first, but opened with a few hours in a decanter to show a beautiful scent of black cherries, herbs, earth and a whiff of that distinctive Truchot leathery funk. There's a sense of richness and weight to the flavours that I haven't found in other vintages of this and strikes me as quite unusual for Truchot, but it's conveyed with a beautiful finessed texture and superb balance. Wonderful, but really needs to be left alone right now.

N.V. Ulysse Collin Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs (2006 vintage fruit)
This is all about showcasing pure, fresh Pinot fruit over a mineral base with the yeasty/biscuity elements quite restrained and muted, and bearing more kinship to a still Pinot Noir than a Champagne. That said, it's outstanding and a bottle disappeared quickly.

2008 Les Chais du Vieux Bourg Côtes du Jura Pinot Noir
Remarkably pale, conveying fresh red fruited flavours, a vivid stony minerality and a faint leathery funkiness with a sense of real purity and a delicate touch, gentle tannins and bright acids that keep it very precise and light on its feet. Glad I have a few more.

I never attempted comprehensive 05 red Burgundy tastings like some folks. But whenever I did open a bottle I was always struck by how special the fruit that year really was.

Of course lots of variation etc etc.

Out of curiosity, what made you open this now? I'm assuming you don't have endless supplies to fritter away.

Salil mentioned that he found the Truchot on a wine list.

Aha, well then I suppose it's mandatory to make sure such a restaurant stock goes into the right mouth.
