Champagne stopper - does it have a real name?

by Neil Courtney » Tue Aug 30, 2011 7:57 pm

As per the subject line, do the cap thingies that you put on an open bottle of champagne to preserve the bubbles actually have a real name? Other than just "Champagne stopper".

Not normally. :D

Sue has a radio spot today and was going to talk about bubbles. Not champagne!

Go to www.radiolive.co.nz at 3:40pm (it is now 2:21pm NZ time) and click on Weekday Hosts/Paul Henry, then Listen Live and View Webcam for the audio and video respectively of the Wine Me Up Wednesday segment.

I took a quick look around the internet and pretty much everyone calls it a 'champagne stopper'. Maybe someone who knows the dark mystery of it will write in.

It would be more useful if it had an integral car tyre valve so you could keep the pressure topped up with a pump.
