WTN: 2001 Robert Mondavi Cab Sauv Reserve

It's been YEARS since I've had a Mondavi cab, so long that this is the first one I've had from the most recent decade. I was a fan in the early 90's but when the wine took a huge jump in price there around 92-94, I bailed. I picked up this one recently on a lark, thought it would be fun to revisit an old friend.

Well. My palate's changed a lot since those early days so maybe it's me, but this wine didn't resemble the Mondavi cabs I remember. Dense black fruit, thick saturated flavors and viscosity, very sweet, a lot of vanilla and--especially surprising--relatively low acid. We couldn't finish the bottle.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

More vinegar? Or is it even too sweet for that?

No, not too sweet for that, but here's something I'm not sure of, maybe too mature. It has seemed to me, at any rate, that 'the mother' needs the nutrients in younger wines. Btw, I have three 750 bottles going now. I'll cap them soon and move them to the cellar to age.
