Though this time a blend.

We did an out of season beef and pork stew up tonight because of an abundance of potatoes, celeriac, parsley root, and carrots. Plus, it wasn’t as scorching hot today, a little cloudy, and besides all of that, I happen to love the eintopf meal, Man. What to drink with a rustic, hearty, savory dish such as this?
Aloisius is a cuvee of Spätburgunder, Portugieser, and Dornfelder (I had to break my house rule against letting anything containing Dornfelder through the door.) Raspberry, cranberry, red johannisbeeren, with a very pretty garrigue-y herbaceousness and wicked-sharp acidity that opened up to reveal a very good pairing. Blind, my call would be Tuscan or Emilio-Romagna Sangiovese -when Portugieser is clean and properly handled (which is next to never), it has these rustic, south-central-European red fruit-meets savor-meets acid flavor and texture that can be really satisfying if not exactly profound.
Cheers,
Bill
