WTN: Rosehall Run Sullyzwicker Red 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Aug 20, 2011 2:22 pm

Prince Edward County (Ontario)

A blend of Cabernet Franc (48 per cent), Gamay (26), Pinor Noir (21) and Syrah (5).

Bright cherry red in the glass.

Spicy, smoky, earthy, black cherry on the nose.

Medium weight, juicy, smoky, high acidity, raspberry, currants, cherry, cranberry, lightly floral, quite tart and tangy, spicy.

Mouthwatering, tangy finish.

Juicy, easy drinking and just perfect for a warm summer day. Originally, Sullyzwicker was derived from a combination of Edelzwicker (a German term used to describe a basic blend of various varieties) and winemaker Dan Sullivan. It is also a nod to partner Lynn's family, the Zwicker's.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Hi Bruce,

I have tasted this wine in the past and it can be quite nice. Did they make it with grapes from Prince Edward County, or from Niagara grapes? I think the Rosehall Run sometimes gets some of their red grapes from the Niagara peninsula.

This is 100 per cent County fruit. You are correct that RR as well as many others, often bump up local production with Niagara grapes and some wineries in the county even produce 100 per cent Niagra wines.
