These are from a mailer from a local retailer. He touts his "direct imports" all the time. Most of these are from his section on "the War Horses of Bordeaux." Since I like to tease Alex and get him riled up re petit chateaux and the like (because I say that at least what is imported around here has a very high proportion of junk) , I thought it was only fair to buy a couple of these if he could recommend.

2006 Ch. des Tuileries, Bdx
2008 Ch. Le Joyeux, Bdx
2006 Ch. Haut Medou, Bdx
2004 Ch. Desclau "Cuvee Marguerite" Bdx Sup.
2008 Ch. Andron, Medoc
2003 Ch Les Grands Champs (Lussac St-E)
2007 Ch. de Vieux Vigneau (Puisseguin St-E)
2006 Ch. Cru de Verdun, Medoc
2005 Ch. Lafon "Cuvee Classic" Listrac
2005 Ch. Millet, Graves

Prices range from $11-20, but to be fair to wines a normal markup would probably put these at something more akin to $8-15. This retailer (Rockwood and Perry) makes a big deal out of direct imports cutting out middleman and saving consumers money, but my experience is that he is very very expensive. When I mentioned "nosebleed prices" on another forum, he PMed saying "maybe a bit on common products, but we concentrate on our direct imports of stuff you can't find elsewhere/" Yeah, like offvintage Dolcetto from no-name producer for $28. In this Bordeaux article, he mentions "reducing costs to consumers by 40% to 60%." Hilarious, when he then listed 2005 Tronquoy-Lalande for $48.99 (I paid $14.99), 2005 Potensac for $46.99 ($24), etc
So I'm not expecting a deal, but would be willing to buy a couple of bottles to try to see if my ideas on value Bordeaux match up with Alex's.
Any of these ring a bell?

Dale,

2006 Ch. des Tuileries – There are several châteaux with the same name in the same appellation. If it is the one my company sold years ago to Singapor Airlines it is cheap and cheerful.
2008 Ch. Le Joyeux, Bdx – don’t know
2006 Ch. Haut Medou, Bdx - ditto
2004 Ch. Desclau "Cuvee Marguerite" Bdx Sup. – don’t know, but probably worth a try for drinking in the coming year if the price is right
2008 Ch. Andron, Medoc – unfamiliar with this. There’s an Haut-Médoc of this name that’s an exclusivity of Cordier Mestrezat. Might very well be worth a try, and I would probably drink it on the young side i.e. now until 2014.
2003 Ch Les Grands Champs (Lussac St-E) – don’t know
2007 Ch. de Vieux Vigneau (Puisseguin St-E) - ditto
2006 Ch. Cru de Verdun, Medoc – not had
2005 Ch. Lafon "Cuvee Classic" Listrac – Unclear whether this is the “straight” cuvee or the “prestige” one. The owner has a good reputation, but many Listrac wines have a rustic side
2005 Ch. Millet, Graves – This would be the one I’d go for, perhaps buying 2 or 3 bottles and opening the first this year to see where it’s at.

As you can see, my batting average is not very good. The number of estates in Bordeaux is astounding. If you make it to Bx. One day I’ll take you to the Maison des Bordeaux et Bordeaux Supérieur to see their Grande Cave.

All the best,
Alex

Wow, now that's a challenge for marketing!

I'll probably get these 2, will report

I've only had one of the '07 vintage (and none of the ones you list), but I did taste through the '07's at the UGC tasting and I am waiting patiently for them to show up. You know they will, and they will be relatively cheap, and good early drinkers. The one I had was Chateau Haut-La Pereyre '07 Bordeaux Superieur, imported by Vintage '59 Imports, Washington, DC. Seems to be produced by a coop just southeast of Bordeaux, in Entre-Deux-Mers. $15 and with a 2 hour decant was very nice (13% ABV, 87-88 pts). Hope we get to see more of the '07's. I would take a flyer on the one '07 you have found.
