2009 Bordueaxs, are they any good? In late 2009 they were saying these were suppose to be way better than the 2005's and possibly the best ever. Is that still the case?

I assume you're talking about "fancy" Bordeaux.

If so, I attended the barrel tastings in 2009 for the great growthzs and found the wines, especially the Left Bank ones, very good indeed.
I believe I prefer them to the 2010s.

Best regards,
Alex R.

Another 1982, Alex?

Any particular favorites from your barrel tastings (fancy Bordeaux)?

Cheers.

Yes, any particular vineyards that especially stand out?

Are they definitely better than 2005?

It seems ridiculous to narrow things down, but I fell head over heels for the 2009s from St. Julien.

I believe that, Clos St. Julien is good even in an off year.

What few '09 Burgundies I've had portend a very nice outcome for these as well. I think through out France it was much better than average.
Parker lists the '09 Cote d'Or a 95E, which means early drinking, but also 95 points. Looks like another "buy" year, get all you can, while you can, although with Bordeaux, there seem to be, as always, nice wines popping up even now, in the $15-$25 range. Even the lowly Latour '09 Marsannay is a good buy @$16, drinking nicely now, with a two hour decant. And of course Beaujolais is having another nice year ('09) as well, may even need a year of bottle aging to achieve the max.

Clos St Julien? The St Emilion? I thought Alex meant the AOC.

Did someone move Burgundy to Bordeaux (or vice versa)?
I'm totally confused!

Just pointing out the strength of the vintage throughout France. Bordeaux wasn't the only star.

'09 Bordeaux is certainly a very fine vintage, if you like what has become of the style. I prefer the concept (haven't tasted much of '09 to compare other than a couple of small wines) of '05 for its greater grip/tannic structure. That doesn't mean that 2009 is less good, just not to my personal preference.

Ranking of vintages is sill anyway (beyond calling out broad disasters - e.g. 1992), as we don't drink vintages, we drink wines.
