Has anyone ever tried Wine-Away?

by Robin Garr » Mon Aug 15, 2011 8:43 pm

A pal sent me this, apparently reporting on a favorable review in Woman's Day magazine. I've always been happy with white wine as the universal solvent for red-wine spills on light colored fabrics.
Wine Away
Score: 4

What WD had to say: This portable spray, which comes in a 2-oz bottle, did remove a red wine stain from our tester's carpet, which she simply blotted out once the solution sat on the stain for a few minutes. "This product is an impressive solution that fulfills its promise to eliminate typically difficult-to-remove red wine stains," she said. However, because it's designed to pretreat stains on clothing—rather than remove them—she didn’t think it was a practical on-the-go solution, adding, "it doesn’t make much sense to carry around a stain treatment that's only targeted to one type of stain."

I've used it with success.

Works pretty well for us too. I would recommend it. Do I get a kickback? If I buy it through your site do you get a kick-back?

Is it any more effective, though, than an admixture of soda water and white wine at removing those stains? For that matter, has anyone tried a solution of OxyClean on them?

I frankly don't remember what the brand was, but I was swirling Cab a bit too energetically at Hawkes (in Jimtown in the Alexander Valley) and decorated my white polo shirt. The young lady sprayed my front with something and it not only got me all wet, it got the stain out, too.
As my 70+ year old physique isn't really wonderful in the wet T-shirt contests, she then pressed a Hawkes T-shirt on me, saying that it was last year's version and she wouldn't charge me for it. It's a nice T-shirt, black with the hawk glyph in red on the back.
It's great to be visiting places where you're not just an item to be processed.
They sell good wine, too. Their Chard is what Cal-Chard ought to be.

Soda water with white wine? New to me. I recall using soda water with salt, and it was satisfactory. Shout concentrate works okay, but only if I'm out of Wine-Away. Mostly, I try not to spill on myself.

Don't use, but have friends who swear by it.
We have wood floors, and for tablecloths and shirts I find Oxyclean in laundry usually works fine

I have used Wine-Away for years. The only stain it totally failed on was red wine on a white cotton napkin that had been missed before it was already washed and dried. It is a plant based product that smells pleasant. I often give the small, 2 oz bottles with a bottle of wine as a hostess gift or include it as a stocking stuffer. For home I buy the 8 oz bottles, red wine and berries/juice seem to fly around my house; it works on walls and Persian carpets in addition to clothing, carpets and table linens.

Susan, never used Wine Away but Oxyclean hasn't failed to remove any red wine stain I've made, and I make a lot. :) It even worked on a precious solid pale turquoise shirt of Bob's where the Gorby-sized wine stain didn't come out entirely in the first go-round, though I thought it had so it got washed in and dried like your napkin.

Oxyclean is pretty much a fail here, but I appreciate that others seem to find that it works. Wineaway seems to work marginally better. Maybe it's all the hot air from Capitol Hill?
