Tried this last night w/ my pork chops:
1. G.D.Vajra DOC: Langhe Bianco (EB; 13.5%) 2009: Med.light gold color; rather stoney/earthy somewhat fragrant/floral/slight muscatty/spicy quite attractive nose; slight spritz rather stoney/austere light floral/muscatty/spicy/perfumed quite tart flavor; med.long bit spritzy floral/muscatty/fragrant/spicy somewhat stoney/austere finish; quite an interesting/attractive wine at a good price; seems like an Arneis with ??, maybe muscat, blended in. $23.00 (KK)

And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I bought this wine Sat because I was curious as to what it was, with only a Bianco on the label. I was assuming it was Arneis, but puzzled by why the Arneis wasn't listed on the label. The stoney/earthy/mineral character certainly suggested it was mostly Arneis, but it had a strange perfumed fragrance to it that suggested Muscat had been added.
WrongoDongo. After looking at the importers WebSite (www.GiulianaImports.com), I found out it is...TaDa...100% Riesling. In the Piedmonte?? SacreBlu!!! Do these Italians have no sense of what is right & proper??? Riesling???!!!!
Turns out, Giuseppe Vajra's grandfather visited Alsace and fell in love w/ their Rieslings and brought back some cuttings from MarcelDeiss and planted them in his vnyds. Since Riesling is not (yet) and authorized Piedmonte variety, it is simply a Langhe wine.
Who'd have thunk....Piedmonte Riesling.
