WTN: 1999 J. J. Christoffel Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese (Mosel)

Ap#18 for those scoring at home.

I've been peeking in on a lot of 1999s, as the vintage never really seemed to shut down. This wine was no exception, as it had plenty of red fruit and lime on the nose along with iron filings, citrus and lots of cherry on the palate. The acids are surprisingly well balanced, though I would never say this is a wine for acid freaks. It's drinking well, though showing zero secondary character. I'm surprised at that, as a '99 Kerpen Wehelner Sonnenuhr Spatlese the other night was in full mid-life petrol mode.

The Christoffel was a very good match with braised hoisin pork loin.

I had the opportunity to taste this several weeks ago. I couldn't get the AP number. The opportunity to write a thorough tasting note did not present itself. However I recall that it was still showing only primary flavors and rather simple ones at that. It had good balance in spite of its low acidity. No petrol whatsoever. Not sure what to think of it as far as aging potential goes.
