WineLoversPage front page gets a new look

by Robin Garr » Mon Aug 08, 2011 10:31 am

With thanks to Mary for doing the heavy lifting, our main site has a completely new look today, something we try to accomplish every few years just to keep up to date. Check it out ...

http://www.WineLoversPage.com

A few of the older interactive features (WineLovers Lexicon, Questionary, Food & Wine and Wine Quotes 101) are offline for a few days - they used an antiquated "frames" setup that takes a while to rebuild; and easy access to a site map and list of contributors are also coming back soon. But we wanted to get the basic site up by the first of the week, and there it is. We aimed for a simple, modular "modern" look with quick load times, optimized for both the home computer screen, desktop and tablet in one.

Interesting that you're pulling thread topics and placing them on the front page, Robin. I might have to be a bit more cautious with some of my posts now....

We've actually been doing that for a while, Mark. But the new design, being less busy (looks like iPad! ) makes it a lot easier to notice ...

Just a thought on the forum post section - my initial take was that as it was in a different colour, it was an ad-link. OK when I looked for it & saw Jenise's name it was clear, but I wonder if others might miss this - after all we're all becoming better at mentally blocking out ads that appear on many sites.

Anyway congrats on the new look & I hope the new tech allows you to expand the horizons!

Please don't block them out on this site, Ian! Else how can we pay the rent?
