WTN -- suprising Shiraz, Olive Hill

by Ruth B » Tue Oct 17, 2006 11:20 am

I was trying to drown my sorrows while watching the Bears stumble through their Monday night in Arizona so I grabbed a '98 Burge Family Olive Hill Shiraz from the basement.
This wine is blended with Grenache and Mourvedre. It is purple, but not quite inky and offered up a lot more complexity than I expected. Surprising but pleasing blueberry with a hint of vanilla. More subtle touch of plums with a nice full mouth feel and lovely finish.
We drank the wine with a rack of lamb, squash and spuds and it was a delightful match(more than I can say for MNF).
Luckily the Bears defense showed up and the evening ended well!
