TWO WEEKS!!!

by JuliaB » Sat Jul 30, 2011 9:56 am

Yes, believe it or not, MoCool 20 is just two weeks from today!!! If you are attending, or not (tsk, tsk) which wines would you like to see on the table from Washington State, Oregon, or British Columbia?

The chat crowd last Wed. was at a loss to think of many BC wines, suggestions here would be most welcome.

Hey Julia, I am bringing 2 from Andrew Will (Sorella & Ceil du Cheval),a Powers Res. and a couple from Cadence (Ceil du Cheval and Taptiel) oh and a couple of Reserve Cabs. from Soos Creek. Not sure yet what I will open, depends on any duplication or special interest by you, OW and the others. I'd like to see a Siegerrebe (sp.) from Whidbey Island B.C.( one of my favorite weird grape varieties), some Woodward Canyon cabs. and maybe a P.G. from Syncline plus a Soter sparkler would be nice too!!! I'd also like to see some obscure Pinot Noir from Oregon that can maybe open my eyes to the potential there. Luci amd I are chaffing at the bit!

Hey Jim!
I haven't made my final selection but am considering a bubbly from Argyle, brut rose', a pn from Vidon which would for fit the bill for obscure. I have several to choose from Oregan, no BC wine in. my cellar. Off theme wines will be a mixed bag. No matter, it will all be good!

12 Days!
See you soon !!

Hi JuliaBro,

OK, I am going to list some of the BC wines I am bringing. Most are BC Bordeaux blends from top producers. The Okanagan valley in BC produces some sumptuous reds and nice whites. I have only tasted a few wines from BC, but one of my favorite wineries is Mission Hill. They make some topnotch wines. Here is a partial list of my wines:

1. Sand Hill Winery, Small lots series, One (Bordeaux blend) Phantom Creek vineyard 2007 14% abv. This wine is a blend of Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot, and malbec. Made by Howard Soon. In 2009, Sand Hill Winery was named Canada's winery of the year by Wine Access, the wine magazine of Canada.

2. Sand Hill Winery, Small lots series, Vigonier, Okanagan Valley. Osprey Ridge Vineyard 2009 14.9% abv.

3. Mission Hill Winery, Quatrain (mostly Bordeaux blend) Okanagan Valley, 2006 13% abv 41% syrah, 32% merlot, 14% cab franc, and 13% cab sauvignon.

4. Laughing Stock winery, Portfolio 2006 (Bordeaux blend) 14.5% abv. merlot 61%, cab sauvignon 16%, cab franc 16%, malbec 5%, petit verdot 2% Aged 19 months in barrels 40% new and 60% second use french oak.

Plus two other bordeaux blends from BC! I have had some very tasty pinots and cab sauvigons from BC in the past, plus some excellent ice wine! :D

I will probably bring two Oregon Pinot Noirs and two off-theme if there is a party on Friday night for out-of-towners.
Preferences among the following (don't have vintages with me)?
Ken Wright Carter Vineyard P. N.
Adelsheim Willamette Valley P.N.
Torii Mor Deux Verres Reserve P.N.
Stoller Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
I have two bottles of Columbia Valley Sequel Syrah on order (Long Shadows series) but don't want to risk shipping them to North Carolina with temperatures in 90's and 100's. What's the weather in Michigan like? Would it be safe to ship them to a WLDG member in Michigan? Probably not (not because they would open them and drink them before Mo'Cool but because of the weather.

Hi JC,

Glad to hear you are coming this year. There will be a Friday night party and the plans are being made. Stay tuned for further announcements. All out of town guests will be invited if they have registered and paid for the MoCool picnic. See you at MoCool!

Hi All,
I may have met some of you at MoCool's past. Just joined WLDG (after 'lurking' for a while :-) & look forward to MoCool on the 13th. Looking through my cellar of mostly French and Californian wines the other day I realized I need to go shopping! Hope to meet more of the group soon...

Not sure yet what I am bringing. I know that I am not bringing anything from BC coz I don't have any of those. And the state of Washington is underrepresented in my cellar. But Oregon, especially WV pinot noir, is in great supply. So I anticipate a few of those, Serene or St Innocent or Drouhin in particular. Perhaps Archery Summit, Willakenzie, Lemelson, or Torii Mor. Almost definitely a Serene chardonnay. Still have a week to decide.
Cheers!
