- 2004 Familia Zuccardi Torrontés Santa Julia Tardío - Argentina, Mendoza (10/14/2006)
Honey and apricots, good acidity to balance out the sweetness, not terribly complex, but a great value. (87 pts.) Price: US$12 (500 ml) - 2005 Alta Vista Torrontés Premium - Argentina, Mendoza (10/4/2006)
A rather nice, varietally correct Torrontes, but a bit overpriced. (88 pts.) Price (estimate): US$13 - 2005 La Yunta Torrontés - Argentina, La Rioja, Famatina Valley (8/15/2006)
Very Gewurz-like and very good. (89 pts.) Price: US$10 - 2004 Vinas de Vila Romance Fine White Wine - Argentina, Mendoza (5/19/2006)
A blend of Chardonnay and Torrontes. Generic, nothing special. I bought this on clearance, and now I know why it was on clearance. (78 pts.)Price: US$3 on clearance (regularly $10) - N.V. Valentin Bianchi New Age - Argentina, Mendoza, San Rafael (10/4/2006)
On of the best $10 whites I've had in the past 6 months. Made from 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Malvasia. It blows away Bonny Doon’s Malvasia, and is as fruity and aromatic as a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Off-dry with plenty of acidity to balance out the sweetness. (90 pts.) Price (estimate): US$10 Note: While I've usually seen this listed as nonvintage, the tasting book from the industry event where I had this listed it as a 2005.
