Had last night as a mystery wine:
1. Novy Syrah Rosella'sVnyd/SantaLuciaHighlands (15.1%) 2002: Rather dark color; quite intense some reduced/pungent coffee grounds/roasted/charred slight funky/wet dog fur rather herbal/blackberry/Syrah bit grapefruity complex nose; rather tart bit schreechy charred/pungent/coffee grounds/espresso some tannic/hard strong blackberry/Syrah/grapefruity complex flavor; very long slight reduced/pungent very strong coffee/coffee grounds/espresso/mocha some blackberry/Syrah/grapefruity fairly tannic finish; strange Syrah.
_______________
A wee BP:
1. I correctly identified this wine as a Calif Syrah, but I couldn't identify the producer. The rather tangy/grapefruity character and the 15.1% suggests a bit too much acid addition here. This was a very strange Novy Syrah and I couldn't decide iif it was just in a weird place right now, or about to crack up. There were things to like in this wine, but it just seemed a bit on the bizarre side right now.
