A blend of Baco, Foch, and Pinot Noir; 12.9% alc./vol.
Vinyl/synthetic cork closure; a very reasonable $8.35 at the Magnotta retail outlet.
Lovely, clear dark-scarlet/ruby hue. This needed a bit of time in the open bottle to unfold, and when it did it showed juicy sour cherry aromas coupled with a subtle and appetizing brackish undertone. Bright acidity on the entry and a full, mouthfilling texture; grippy and crisp at the same time, with alcoholic warmth and good balance wrapping it up on the finish. I can sense a bit of each component of the blend here: the juicy cherry and brackish aromas of the Foch, a bit of Baco's leafy rusticity, and finally, the spice and tannic streak of the Pinot.
A versatile wine, this would go well with all pasta dishes. What's more, the blend seems to produce a really nicely rounded wine: much like the Gamay/Zweigelt blend that a few wineries have started toying with - another one that I think should become more widespread.
