Becky just now posted a column in the Dallas Morning News about the Brocard, and it's worth reading. The wine's worth drinking too. Everything she says it is, plus it's a nice price.
Here's the article:
Jean-Marc Brocard, Sauvignon Saint Bris AOC 2009, $12.99-$14.99
Just when you think you’ve gotten a handle on some sort of wine knowledge, you find out there’s more to it. For example, the grape varieties grown in the Burgundy wine region of France are chardonnay with a little bit of aligoté for the white and pinot noir and gamay for the reds, right? Yes, but — and there’s always a “but” with wine — this wine comes from an area near Chablis and it’s made of, gasp!, sauvignon blanc.
Saint Bris is a cool climate in the world of wine, so the sauvignon is elegant and subtle, like this one, with delicate mineral, citrus and herbal aromas. It’s lean, crisp and citrusy in the mouth with zingy acidity. Oysters on the half shell come to mind or a green salad with a goat cheese.
Jean-Marc Brocard, son of a farmer, got into the wine game when he married his childhood sweetheart, whose father had a small vineyard. Today the Brocard family has nearly 445 acres of vineyards in Chablis and other parts of Burgundy. Most of their vineyards are certified organic, some even biodynamic because of the family’s belief that the wines reflect the soil from which they come.
