WTN: Champagne and Bordeaux

by Jay Labrador » Sat Jul 16, 2011 2:53 am

Met up with Jojo at the shop for drinks last Thursday. After a couple of weeks in Canada away from his collection, he wanted some Bordeaux but we did start with Champagne.

Delamotte Blanc de Blancs NV - This has a great deal of fruit. Tight and concentrated but with the beginning of some breadiness coming through. Rather primary at this point. Really nice but age will bring out more complexity. Good length.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 1995 - Sweet and a little minty on the nose. Meaty. Faded fruit. Quite austere and tannic. Very dry but fleshes out somewhat on the finish. Tough to drink. The acidity just got more pronounced with airing. Over the hill, I think.

Domaine de Chevalier 2004 - Soft and a little spicy. Rather forward and easy to drink. Long and dry finish.

We went over to Tsumura for sushi and had a very good Delamotte Rose NV and one of my favorite Sancerres, Vatan Neore 2004. Both very good with the sushi.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
