Lot 18

by Bob Henrick » Sat Jul 09, 2011 3:40 pm

I have seen a LOT of internet advertisements for this Cyber company of late. They call themselves a Daily Wine deals kind of operation. And, they make themselves sound like a good deal. So good in fact that I actually signed up. After a day or so I unsubscribed. they claim to have some really good prices on world class wines, and maybe they do. However in the short time I was subscribed, I never saw any with which I was familiar. Then I also found out they would not ship to me here in Kentucky in the off chance I wanted to buy wine from them. They sell other stuff too, but I didn't delve deep enough to know what other stuff.

Thanks for sharing your experience and for the warning. Sounds fishy and it's good that you unsubscribed quickly!

Reports elsewhere on the net are much less worrisome. People getting wine delivered. Of course there's some of the usual complaints, but nothing that has not been said about 99% of retailers. It does not appear to be any kind of scam.

I recently ordered some White Rose Pinot Noir through lot18. The wines were delivered quickly direct from the winery, and I had no trouble whatsoever. I'm a satisfied customer from California.

I am happy to be proven wrong regarding Lot 18. However their ads say as much as half off on world class wines, and in the few days I was subscribed I didn't see any known wines much less world class wines. Then, I found that they would not ship to Kentucky, I saw no reason to remain subscribed. It is good that others experience is better.

Bob,

There have been any number of interesting wines (Joly, Clark Caudon, Novy, Mascarello Monprivato (!), etc). Not unlike Wines Till Sold Out you have to keep an eye on it. There will be things that do not ring a bell.

As for the shipping...that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish. If they cannot ship to you (and note that in some cases it is the wineries shipping directly to you, so if they don't have a permit...) then there's no reason to subscribe unless you like getting e-mail.
