Tom & Marie brought as a mystery wine last night:
1. WoodroseWnry Blanc de Bois Texas (Stomped in Texas; 12.0%; www.WoodRoseWinery.com) Stonewall/TX 2009: Med.light gold bit cloudy color; quite fragrant/perfumed bit volatile/EA/airplabe glue rather lemony/musky ripe/honey/mango/overripe pineapple bit earthy nose; very soft/fat/underacid very floral/fragrant/hair oil bit hot/alcoholic/fumey/volatile intense grapey/muscatty/some Traminette-like bit non-vinifera off-dry flavor; very long intense grapey/floral/hair oil/GWT-like musky soft/fat/porky muscatty finish; woefully underacid and the balance all out of whack, but some interesting aromatics.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Blanc de Bois: Never done heer'd of this grape until I tried it last night. It was served blind and the musky aromatics of it made me think it was a non-vinifera wine. Blanc de Bois is a cross that was developed down in Florida. It is a cross developed between a Muscadine hybrid and Cardinal, a vinifera cross developed by HaroldOlmo. The Muscadine heritage really comes thru on this wine. It is a variety that is fully resistant to Pierce's disease and, therefore, suitable for the humid climes of the deep South. It seems to have become a favorite grape in Texas. The wine had some interesting aromatics and it would be interesting to see what kind of wine it could make when grown in a colder area like Calif, with adequate acidity, and competent winemaking.
