WTN: 2008 Chateau Vieux Donjon blanc

by Jenise » Thu Jul 07, 2011 10:06 am

The 2008 Vieux Donjon is a most excellent Rhone white. A sweet floral nose is augmented by touches of Vitamin B minerality and Johnson & Johnson baby powder. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with a harmonious blend of loquat, green apple and lemon meringue pie. Acid and tannins are perfect.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

There are probably only a small number of us who know what loquats are. As a kid, though, they grew in my older Southern California neighborhood, most planted by earlier residents and ignored by then-current owners so I pretty much had the fruit all to myself. Was happy to see quite a few of the trees in Provence last year, so it's a more-apt comparison than some would guess.
