WTN: 2009 Beyerskloof Pinotage

by Paul B. » Sun Jul 03, 2011 8:09 pm

14% alc./vol. Screwcap closure. Wine of Origin Stellenbosch. Served in a Pinot Noir glass.

Medium garnet colour with medium saturation. Aromatically closed at first, but with time in the glass it opened to show classic Pinotage earthy aromas of leather, eggplant and coal, with bananas and coal dust coming to the fore with some additional time. This Pinotage is much more earthy than fruity. Excellent balance and structure right on the entry, with a warming, moderately tannic structure. Leathery on the finish, with some light oak spice.

Definitely one of the better Pinotages featured at Vintages in recent years.

Yup, white label with the traditional Pinotage leaf at the top. It's a 2009 for sure. Did Beyerskloof change labels since that vintage?

The LCBO hasn't had Beyerskloof in years, and the last time I had it was probably 6 or 7 years ago at least.

No, but they make a black label Reserve.

Gets confusing because the white label 2009 we got in the UK was WO Western Cape (shipped in bulk for UK bottling :(
