WTN: 2007 Spätburgunder, Rosenberg, Weingut Becker Landgraf 14%
The first of two bottles bought in a wine shop during a recent visit to Hamburg. I've forgotten what I paid, but probably a little more than 20 EUR
Very light red colour, almost rosé, which makes me a bit worried that I will find a very light and uninteresting wine, but the nose displays all those charming elements that one hopes to see in a Pinot wine: charmingly fresh strawberries backed up by a lingering smoke as from a slowly dying woodfire. A little meatiness too adds to the complexity. A very seductive nose and lots of Pinosity.
In the mouth, however, the wine is rather thin and light with a fresh acidity and not much tannins, which makes the mouthfeel a bit raw and lean. With food the wine improves substantially and the charming components of the nose come forward also in the mouth. A fun wine to experience, not too impressive, but very charming, at least to smell.
Cheers,
Anders
