WTN: 1997 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sperss

Picked from a restaurant's wine list - they still have plenty of this, David ;-)
A perfect evening. Rain had freshened up the outside air. Only a few guests were at the restaurant, hence no perfume attacks, the enjoyment could start. Fortunately, the bottle was faultless (although stored too warm) and served properly at ideal drinking temperature. Subtle aroma of cherries, blue berries, smoky minerality, truffles, herbs, almonds and white flowers. On the palate displaying rich fruit, great concentration and highly aromatic, fresh, fruity tannins of exceptional quality. Just so stimulating, refreshing, enjoyable, inspiring, without any sense of heaviness. Every sip brings new impressions to light. Probably one of the most successful wines ever from Angelo Gaja? However a perfect accompaniment to a juicy, grilled beef. - My rating of this bottle: 19/20. Perfectly stored bottles deserve a higher rating.

Best regards,
Rainer
