WTN: 2005 Guilliams Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

by Diane (Long Island) » Sun Jun 19, 2011 10:55 am

I came across this producer a few years ago on a trip to Napa. That time it was a warm, sunny day and we tasted their wines in the vineyard. Two years ago, we scheduled a visit that turned out to be cool and rainy, and tasted in the garage, where they actually make their small production of wines.

When we arrived, John Guilliams stopped what he was doing to pour us some samples, and I felt the same as I did the first visit. I came away loving their Cabernet Sauvignon...their regular bottling and, especially, their reserve.

Last night, I opened the 2005 Cab to go with grilled steaks. It had lovely, sweet cherry fruit, with good acidity, freshness, and soft tannins. Well balanced and delicious.

Guilliams! I concur. All that is right with Napa Cabernet can be summed up in a bottle of Guilliams.

Thanks for the note.

Cheers,
Bill

Wow, Bill. Guilliams has made its way to Germany?

We don't see these wines mentioned too often.

No, I've never seen a Guilliams here (you could change that for me by sending a bottle  ) But Guilliams was a favorite producer of mine before I moved.

Cheers,
Bill
