WTN: 2005 Selbach-Oster Bernkasteler Badstube Kabinett

by Salil » Fri Jun 17, 2011 11:03 pm

(The grape's Riesling, but it wouldn't fit in the title.)

In a word, AWESOME!

It's hardly a 'true' Kabinett given its generous sweetness and richness - but that's nitpicking, as it's full of ripe Riesling fruit and minerality, rich but really well balanced and refreshing, and a wonderful drink.

Sounds delicious. I really like what Selbach (and Prum for that matter) does with the Badstube. It's a much more fruit forward wine than they get from say the Schlossberg, but still has wonderful depth.

Of course the Badstube is not your everyday grosslage, so it's not really surprising. Lots of good sub-plots in that oversized designation.

Hi Salil -

Thank you for the note. Sounds like a really nice wine!

To echo what David said, Badstube really transcends the Grosslage category.
