A New AOC for Me...

by Richard Fadeley OLD » Tue Jun 14, 2011 9:19 pm

When I ran across this in a new French wine store in Summerville, SC I was a little confused by the label. The wine rep was there and he said that the Collioure (AOC) was located next to Banyuls, in the Roussilon, next to Spain. With very little research (Wine Lover's Companion) I discovered that Collioure is co-located with Banyuls, and is the still (not fortified) wine from this AOC. The wine, '05 Domaine du Mas Blanc, Cosprons Levants, was a superb example of the regions wine. Probably a blend of Grenache, Mouvedre, Syrah, and other Rhone varieties, but very much in balance with a sedate 13% ABV. A Vineyard Brands import so it might be "findable". I paid $20, which might be a little high, but well worth it. This was very good ++.

Oh, yeah; good stuff. Wonderful little town, too. (I had a bud who worked for VB, and he turned me on to this stuff some years ago.)

Dear Richard,

I am very disappointed. I thought the French had granted you AOC Richard Fadeley Monopole status.

Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?

Not one worth driving down here for. But we are thankful for what ever we can get. This little store is in the down town square, run by an amiable Frenchman. Accent on Wine is located on 132 S. Main. But we also have Total Wine and Green's, two good stores. I am from Columbia, but Charleston is a wine town, with great restaurants. Try "FIG" or "Lucca's" to name only a few.

Total Wine is the Walmart of wine. Lucca's is good when Ken is feelin it. Haven't been to Fig. I love Crue Cafe and Hall's.
