Today's record breaking temps in the area got me thinking, what are folks preferred wine tippled for these solar blasted days. Personally I've got to have something that can take more than the ordinary bit of chill. Rose, Sauv Blanc, QbA Rieslings, what else?

I went with Ganevat's J'en Veux. Performed admirably, before the allergies got to me.

I usually try to avoid complex aged wines when it's really hot, even if I have the airconditioner going.

But given my young collection, that's not a difficult feat!

My geo-thermal A-C is so great that I am still drinking mostly Cal. Cabs. with red meat, some Rhone reds occasionally and bit of Riesling and Chardonnay with pork or chicken. It all depends on the menue not the weather.

Since I moved to Texas last month I've been introduced to Bugey-Cerdon. I'd never had it before. It's perfect for the heat!

A bottle of the '09 Vinho Verde Adamado from the Ponte da Lima Coop disappered in record time in last night's muggy heat. Massively refreshing, off dry, spritzy and citric. One of my favorite cheapies, a bit drier and more substantial than some of the usual suspects (Casal Garcia, Gazela, etc.) but similarly priced. Mostly Loureiro with some Arinto and Trajadura. 10% abv.

Oh, and let's not forget the ever-popular Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie.

Add to those already listed Albarino, Verdicchio, Gruner Veltliner, Scheurebe, Pinot Blanc, sparkling wine including Prosecco or Cava. Perhaps a chilled Beaujolais Village, Lambrusco, Sangria, or Valpolicella.
