Jamie Goode, Sarah Ahmed and now Tom Cannavan. Pretty soon they are going to run out of UK wine critics who know anything about Portugal! They could fly me over for a guest appearance.

Thanks for posting this. There are actually a few wines there that are imported into the US with some availability (e.g. the Cabriz reserva, Vale Meao, Feital..) but most are not. I hear good things about the Julia Kemper Daos - a region worth exploring for both red and white.

Joe will probably know some of these reds. This list is very comprehensive, including Noval and Portal, and as usual Chris writes them up in his special way.....>

Not in Top 50 but close enough to be considered!! The Touriga Nacional 2009 made the list though.

TN: 2008 Quinta do Portal Colheita Tinto, Douro.

I had a couple of glasses late last night, and as usual did not disappoint. Not one for the long haul however, red fruits and pepper on the nose. Big fruity flavors, hint of tannin still but very drinkable. Not at all international imo. Medium-bodied, herbal and hint of pepper on a nice finish.

Looks like a Christmas shopping list to me!

But, nothing from Madeira or the Canary's?

I remember an offline 11 or 12 years ago with Tom Cannavan in San Francisco. Very knowledgeable guy and fun to drink and eat with.
