Tried this last night:
1. Angel TheHellion ColumbiaVlly (72% Primitivo/28% PetiteSirah; www.AngelVine.net; 210 cs) 2008: Very dark/near black color; light toasty/oak very strong juicy/blackberry/boysenberry/Zin slight peppery/earthy almost boysenberry/Syrah-like slight spicy/rosemary/thyme big fruit nose; fairly soft rich/lush/juicy blackberry/boysenberry/Zin light toasty/oak some DrPepper/RCCola/licorice some peppery/spicy light tannic flavor; very long soft/rich/lush very juicy/blackberry/boysenberry/Zin slight tannic rather DrPepper/RCCola/spicy light toasty/oak finish; lots like a WashState Syrah, bit like a Lemberger; mostly like a Dlocetto w/o the nasty acids & tannins & bite; more like a Friuli Refosco than anything; biit like a Paso Zin or Syrah; lots of bass notes and not the high-toned character of NorthCoast Zin; really great drinking over the next 1-4 yrs; great price at $22.00.

And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. BobWood did a post on this wine several weeks ago and liked it quite a lot ("slutty" was his descriptor). Since WashState Zin and PS are pretty uncommon; my interest in this wine was immediately picqued and I ordered from the WebSite. Since winemaker Ed Fus also makes a 100% Primitivo, I was particularly interested in that wine; but alas it was sold out. When my order arrived last Fri, low and behold; Ed had included two vintages of the Primitivo and two other sold-out wines, gratis.... for "scientific purposes" as he termed it. A most kind and generous gesture...if only the NationalScienceFoundation were that generous I'd be doing even more "Science".
As I was casting about for something to try last night, I kept hearing this little squeaky voice coming from my back room..."try me....try me". Though I normally let a wine fresh off the boat rest a week or two, I succumbed to its blandishments.
This was an extremely interesting rendition of Zinfandel. I struggled to find the right box from my tasting experience to place it. Whatever it is...it's lip-smacking good.
I hearby renounce my membership in the "Parker sheep" cabal and am signing onto the "BobWood sheep" contingent.
