2007 Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spätlese (Germany, Mosel)
Ripe tree fruit and a little bit of tropical fruit on the nose. This is quite ripe - in an easy to drink auslese way - and might be too sweet for some. On the back end the acid kicks in, giving the wine better balance, and as it opens the entire frame comes more into focus. Overall it's quite slurpable, though more for a pleasantly refreshing day like yesterday (when it was in the '60s/low '70s) than the prior day when it was in the high '80s. The warmer ambient temperatures made the wine seem a bit ponderous, even when it was served quite cool.

The only 07 Spatlese I remember having from Daniel was the Portz, which I liked very much. Of course with my minimal storage situation they are long gone. Sounds like this is rounding/slimming into form and probably has plenty of slimming and focusing ahead of it as well.

Serious slimming still needed.
