WTN: Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon 2009

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Jun 02, 2011 8:38 am

Vin de Pays du Loire
Henri Bourgeois

Pale yellow in the glass.

Gooseberry, peppery, spicy and clean on the nose.

Medium weight, crisp, grassy, light gooseberry, lemon, juicy, good tangy acidity, lightly floral, rich, very clean and refreshing.

Lemon, peppery, spicy and very mouthwatering on the finish.

Delicious.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

I like the Henri Bourgeois wines a lot...not pretentious, just tasty and well-priced.
Cheers, Jim

Hi Bruce - Thanks for the interesting note. Like James, I have also liked most of the Henri Bourgeois wines - particularly the Sauvignons, although the reds can also be good. Haven't had this 2009, however.

I had the pleasure of tasting wine at their tasting room in the little village of Chavignol, about a mile from Sancerre. Christian Bourgeois is a charming young man ( a son I think), and having spent time in South Africa, speaks perfect English. They have a small but very modern tasting room in the tiny village, more famous for its little goat cheese (Crottin de Chavignol). The Petit Bourgeois is a Vin de Pays, from bought grapes outside of the AOC, but there, and when I've found it here in the southeast, a credible wine. Dedicated people, good wine. We brought a bottle of their '04 MD de Bourgeois that was excellent a few months ago. Sancerre is out of the way, but worth the trouble if you are in the Loire Valley.
