Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant 2005 - 34,70€; Grenache 50%, the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsault; 13,5% abv

I haven't had this UFO in years so I was very happy to get to try a new vintage of it. My memory of it was of a very Southern Rhône -styled wine, lacking the excesses of so many other Americans that have been available in Finland.

And I am happy to see that it is still like that. A deep, dark scent, savoury and meaty with slight garrigue. Full bodied and still pleasantly and strongly tannic: a drying, manly, slightly rugged and rustic wine. It actually seems more like my Platonic Ideal of Châteauneuf-du-Pape than most CdPs that we have had available here in a long time! :D I'm just not sure about the price...

I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

The 2006 is coming out in Ontario in June. Expensive, yes, but at $39.95 (Canadian), I think it's a slightly better deal than you got.
