WTN: Two Py in a pod

by David M. Bueker » Tue May 31, 2011 7:38 am

2009 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py
Still showing lots of dark cherry fruit and a nicely balanced backbone. This is fresh and remains fun to drink.

2009 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py
This was much sterner than the Foillard. As such it was a better match with my burger, but not nearly as fun on its own. It was darker in color, darker in fruit and darker in attitude. Let this rest.

The last bottle I had suggested the wine's starting to close down. Unfortunately mine didn't come from a glacial cellar! ;)

Thanks for the notes. Quite glad I sent all my Burgaud to offsite storage.

The idea of sending Beaujolais to offsite storage just boggles the mind. I don't disagree with the idea (especially considering how my bottle of the Burgaud showed), but it's still something that seems so...geeky!

Does it help if you think of it as Morgon or Cote du Py instead of Beaujolais?

You guys are both so... geeky. I'd say get a life but most likely, you'd just grab a bottle!

Me too, for that matter.

David -

Thank you for the notes. I tried the Burgaud Côte du Py earlier this year, and agree about it being more structured.

Since we have a number of cru Beaujolais drinkers here, does anyone know what I can expect from a '09 Laurent Gauthier Morgon Cote du Py VV? Picked it up highly recommended from a shop with a nice selection, but never heard of this producer.

Having recently enjoyed three iterations of a Morgon/Py by a single producer, I can most certainly encompass aging Morgon, David.

Sheesh, when I read that quickly I thought you were advocating aging Mogen David!

News Flash: New Concord vineyards established in Beaujolais to satisfy thirst for kosher labrusca lovers in New York and the Northeast US and Canada.

The new AOC will be called Morgon-David. Paul B. has already placed an order for 10 cases. :D

Nothing to add about the wine, just wanted to compliment you on your great title!
