WTN: Good Silvaner (Not Franconian)

by Bill Hooper » Wed May 25, 2011 2:36 pm

2009 (Stefan) Dorst & Consortan Silvaner Trocken Qualitätswein -Pfalz, Germany 12,5%

This bad-boy isn't about the firm mineral and the subtle bouquet playing in parallel to the pure, grapey, Silvaner fruit that is paramount to any number of great Franken Silvaners. It is merely about the fruit itself, which is grapey, but also appley and deliciously nutty. Pfälzer Silvaner is sometimes criticized for being fat or flabby, but this has very precise acidity to go along with the body and I like it very much -it is rather like a better Alsatian Sylvaner with more definition and a longer finish. This is a collaboration between Stefan Dorst and Michel Naab of Villa Pistoria.

Cheers,
Bill
