2008 Schäfer Frölich Riesling Medium Dry
Lemons, stones, apple skin and a long, dry, almost tannic finish. This is in serious need of being a little sweeter than halbtrocken, as the 2008 acids stripped the enamel off my teeth, scoured my esophagus and gave me an ulcer. I'm not looking forward to an hour or two from now.

I normally like my Rieslings on the acidic side, but this one is pretty extreme.

Hi David -

Thank you for the note - sounds like a pretty harsh wine there, even though I've enjoyed the higher acidity levels in the 2008s.

Huh. Funny, I quite enjoyed the 08 Schafer-Frohlich GGs (though it may be that those wines have enough ripeness to balance out the acids - one thing I've not found in some other vintages of that Medium Dry as well, and one reason why I haven't bought that wine in a bit). Let's check in on a bottle of the 08 Felseneck GG some time when your teeth feel up to it. ;)

I am shocked to hear that after years of Riesling enjoyment you have any teeth at all! 2010 should take care of any you have left. But don't worry, if things stay on track, you won't have to contend with much acid in 2011. :?

Cheers,
Bill

Well on night two it's still stern, but not quite internally damaging.
