WTN: Peter Jakob Kühn "Jacobus" 2010

by Saina » Tue May 24, 2011 4:53 pm

It finally happened - the day I get a dry German Riesling in my glass of which I have nothing to complain about. Peter Jakob Kühn "Jacobus" Riesling 2010 from Rheingau is a wonderfully pure, mineral and elegant dry Riesling. Wonderfully citric and lively palate, dry (7g/l RS, 7,1g/l acid) but not ascetic. Interminable and elegant. And the best part is that this is completely affordable, being only 12,70€ in Alko of all places!

I hadn't heard of this producer before this. Are their wines really as exciting as this one seemed to me?

I remember their off-dry wines being a bit too heavy for my tastes. But then I'm not a big Rheingau fan. Certainly the quality is there.

Hi Otto -

I can't really help you much with Kühn, as the only one of their wines I have had was a 2000 (which was actually not bad). I do know that the guy is a major biodynamic advocate. From something that I read recently, though, it sounds like he is fermenting some of his Rieslings on the skins now. As a Riesling and orange wine fan, I would definitely love to try one of those.

They released the '2009 Amphoren-Wein' last fall (I have not tried it yet) and they are one of the few well-known producers of Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus, which is a life-lister for any Rheingau fan.

Cheers,

Sorry, the 2009 Amphoren Wein is due to be released next fall. No wonder I haven't yet tasted it!
