WTN: Recent Wines, ESJ, Pinot Noir and others

2099 Edmunds St John Rocks and Gravel - Easy drinking red fruit with floral notes and spice. Lots and lots of life left in this one so I'm going to just let the remaining bottles sit and develop.

2001 Edmunds St John Bassetti Vineyard Syrah - Corked just enough to kill the pleasure. There's a damn good wine there if only.....

2006 Argyle Nuthouse Pinot Noir - I really like the Argyle Reserve Pinot Noir and scored a couple of bottles of the Nuthouse a local wine shop had from a special buy. The first bottle was pretty good, but not good enough that I would have wanted to pay the regular price for it. This bottle wasn't even that good, with way too much oak up front, which was even more pronounced the next night.

2006 Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir - Very nice Pinot with some mushroom earthiness and tart red fruit. I've a few vintages of this wine, and while I like them, I often feel like they're not quite up to the price. I felt the same about this one, until the next night, when it had fleshed out with some forest floor and spice added to the mix.

2000 St Clement Oroppas - Oh my!! This was the last of a 6 bottle case and I'm more regretful than ever that I didn't buy more. Very nicely integrated red and black fruit, sweet oak as a spice and silky tannins glide smoothly over the tongue and down the throat leaving behind a refreshing finish of tart berries. I tried squeezing the bottle to wring out a few more ounces to no avail.

2007 Domaine de Nizas Les Mas - Agreeable blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Syrah and 10% Petite Verdot makes for a pleasant daily drinker. Not complex or outstanding, but a good wine, with or without food. It did not hold up overnight, though, so be sure to drink all after opening.

2009 Jeff Runquist "R" Barbera - Oak soup with no redeeming qualities.

Doug; nice to read about the '99 vintage so far in advance! I might just mail that vintage in! :D
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...
