Wine with Rock & Roll

by David M. Bueker » Tue May 17, 2011 8:08 am

An odd item on CNN.com captured my attention this AM. The wine director of a couple of places in Georgia pairs up wines with Rock & Roll. A dubious pracitce at best, trying to match wine and music, but what's interesting to me is his set of wine selections. There's some geek credibility.

I get sweet onions in German Rieslings, too.

I've never gotten the sweet onions thing. Pierre Rovani (Parker's former sidekick) used to talk about spring onions in Riesling. I wonder if it's some strange combination of sulfur and minerality with the sweetness of the wine just coming together to suggest something onion-esque.

Iraqi Jews make stuffed onions that evoke German Rieslings, to me.

Rice and meat and I don't know what else.

But the biggest impression on the taste buds is the onions.

Well with your connection to riesling I thought they might have been stuffing them with apricots and oranges!
