WTN: Bone-Jolly

2010 Edmunds St. John Gamay Bone-Jolly Rose Witters Vineyard
Opened outdoors on a back porch with a plate of cheeses, olives, crackers and various dips. Pretty much everything I'd want in a rosé; bursting with incredibly fresh red berries and pomegranate fruit with a saline element underneath. Very light on its feet with bright acids that keep it very precise and refreshing, delicious. Need to get more. (Aside: Under screwcap again, but no trace of reductive flavours.) Thanks Steve!

Coincidence, I am opening the `09 shortly. How did I get hold of it? Bob H gave a friend of mine a bottle when they met up in Kentucky last Sept!!

Salil, good catch on the "pomegranate" note! I received my case of the 2010 a few weeks ago, and was immediately struck by the difference in color between it and the '09! The 2010 whispers "pink", while the '09 speaks it boldly! So, I opened an '09 first, and again was immersed in a bowlful of strawberries and red berry compote. Bone~Jolly '10 is tart cherries and as Salil said, pomegranates (which was the other note I couldn't put my finger on). The 2010 will be a more serious food wine, IMO. It has enough structure to pair with those grilled meats of summer, as well as those everything-but-kitchen-sink salads we often make in lieu of cooking.

Sorry about your luck, Robin. Steve posted on FB that his 2010 was going fast, so I purchased a case to split between two friends, and a case for myself. Now...if we were to have an offline this summer, I just might bring some along....

The 2009 Edmunds St. John Gamay Bone-Jolly Rose Witters Vineyard was very fine last night, though it was initially too cold, thus showing a bit mute. An hour later it was full of fresh strawberries and a nice back end acidity. Yum. Great with sushi by the way.

My wife just gave me a mixed case of '08/'09 Bone Jolly, in addition to some other wines, for our anniversary. I have had plenty of the '08 in the past, but have not yet had the pleasure of tasting the '09. Looking forward to uncorking one with dinner tonight.

WTN: `09 Edmunds St. John Bone-Jolly Rose Witters Vineyard, Sierra Foothills.

Not available in AB but friend met up with Bob H who gave her a few bottles to bring back to Canada!

Color is quite a medium red rose. Strawberry, minerals on the nose with some floral tones too..all very attractive.
Initial entry thought is dryish, red fruits with a strong mineral element. Cherry, orange zest, very good balance all quite distinct. "Tart raspberry" from across the table but no pepper noted. One needs an inquisitive mind drinking this, not your average pinkie!
Really held up well overnight, wonder if I will ever get a chance to taste this Gamay ever again?
