WTN: 2002 Corison Napa Valley

Didn't realize I had a bottle of this left. I really need to update my spreadsheet!

Anyway, I liked this bottle actually a little more than the last one. Even at nine years old, though, I wonder if we drank this too young, because it is still very, very primary. Blazing acidity, which I love, nice currant fruit, red cherry. Big wine...the alcohol actually showed a bit on the nose. (although bottle says 13.7% abv). I love her wines...but the Kronos Vineyard 2001 vintage seemed to show secondary development sooner than these 2002s are! Maybe put one down for another five years????

I have not tasted the 2002 but based upon the 1994, 1997, and 1999; you drank it young. The 1997 was singing at 12 years. The 1994 and 1999 were not yet at their peak at 12 years of age.

Seems like this is a week where impatience has not paid off.

2002 seems to be vins de garde, anyway, for ageable california cabs. Patience! Patience! Patience! .

Wineries like Corison, Cain and others produce wines that do much better with much more time than most Californian wines need but then again, I've been lucky enough to try older 1970's wines from the big guns too such as Heitz, BV, etc and they show that they last the test of time too.
