When to open these Bordeaux?

by Jim Grow » Sat May 07, 2011 12:54 pm

I have most of a case of 2005 Ch. Le Conseiller and a few bottles of 2008 Ch. Macquin from Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion. The one bottle of 2005 I consumed was completely closed a couple years ago so I have been waiting. The Macquin is a cheap wine that is said to be ready to go but I would like a second opinion. Anyone taste either wine recently?

Unlike some of the very top Bordeaux wines of 2005 that will be approachable and enjoyable only in another decade or more, the wines about which you ask are completely accessible now. The Le Conseiller, a Bordeaux Superieur, is a lovely wine and fully ready now-2016. If you are referring to the Pavie-Macquin hold your horses as the wine will become approachable only in 2016. If the simpler Macquin, go for it. Fully ready now.

Thanks Daniel, That is what I thought about the Macquin, which is not the Pavie-Macquin but was not sure about the Le Conceiller.
