Pennsylvania Wines

Any wineries in the Gettysburg-Harrisburg-Scranton corridor worth a visit? I'll be in that area on Saturday.

Thanks,

David

What is your definition of "worth"?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Ha!

Basically, after I'm done tasting the wines, I don't say to myself "That is 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back".

I'm not looking for stunning, willing to settle for average, and want to sample a few PA wines to establish a tasting baseline. Any wineries that offer fruit-wine (Pear Wine - what is that?) need not apply.

Fairly close to York, in Brogue, there is the Allegro winery. At one time, they were the finest producer of wine in PA, and when I visited there the wines were decent if not remarkable.

More in the direction you are going, recommend: Nissley Vineyards & Winery Estate, Bainbridge, PA; 717-426-3514. We have been by a couple of times and have really enjoyed ourselves. It is a great place to stop for picnic when travelling. The wines are nice tho not memorable. You will remember the visit though.

I stopped by Nissley - stunning location. The old stone houses, the meadow, the grass areas with the barn, quite spectacular. I also enjoyed the self-guided toward through the winery. As you indicated, the wines were OK but nothing memorable. Well worth a visit if you're in the area (and driving by Three Mile Island was interesting).
